Around 70 people attended the Cenotaph Service at RSL Maleny to commemorate Vietnam Veterans Day on 18 August 2023. This also acknowledged 50 years since the end of the Vietnam War.

Vietnam Veterans, partners, family, and supporting Sub-Branch members and Qantas pilots (Qantas used to fly us to and from Vietnam, those who didn’t go by ship) joined us for the service and later for lunch.

Guest speaker was Rick Vickers. National Anthems of Australia and New Zealand were sung by Nellie Finlay and Sue Haley. MC was Romi Gyergyak. The Last Post and Reveille was played by Katie Jardine who attended with her PTSD trainee dog. Cadets from TS Centaur excelled themselves with their role as Catafalque Party.

Around 62 attended the luncheon, organised by RSL Maleny staff and volunteers. We are very thankful for the financial support provided by RSL Sunshine Coast District. Members from Maleny, Mapleton, Beerwah & Kenilworth were also represented and welcomed.

It was a very moving ceremony and we extend our sincere thanks to RSL Maleny staff and volunteers who did a top job with organising a once in a lifetime event.
